Star World Holdings is not a newcomer to mining on paper. It is a company led by a trained geologist who spent years studying, mapping, and analysing the subsurface mineral wealth of the Timor region, before building an enterprise from scratch across six industries over fourteen years. The Mining Division is not a pivot. It is a return to the founder’s technical roots.
Timor-Leste’s mining sector is at an early but significant stage of development. The Government of Timor-Leste has been actively opening mineral exploration blocks, recognising that the country’s economic diversification beyond petroleum cannot happen without developing its mineral resources sector. Star World Holdings has positioned itself at the front of this opening, fully licensed for both metallic and non-metallic mineral exploration, and actively participating in the government’s block-bidding processes.
Current activity is focused on Block 4 marble exploration in Metinaru, in joint venture with Gengo (Jakarta-based mineral exploration partner), with further block applications and partnerships under active development. This is a division in its early but deliberate stages of growth, and Star World Holdings is building it the same way it has built every other division: carefully, credibly, and for the long term.

Most diversified companies that enter mining do so opportunistically, following market signals without the technical foundation to evaluate what they are bidding on. Star World Holdings is different. Its founder, Antoninho J. Guterres Ximenes, is a trained geology engineer, graduating in 2010 after five years studying Timor-Leste’s geological formations, mineral systems, and subsurface characterisation methodologies.
Between 2011 and 2014, Antoninho worked as a Junior Geologist for ENI Timor-Leste on the Kitan offshore field, one of the Timor Sea’s most significant petroleum operations at the time, working in an environment where geological assessment, reservoir characterization, and subsurface data interpretation were daily professional activities. The rigor he developed in that environment, applied to mineral resource evaluation, gives Star World’s Mining Division a technical credibility that no amount of external consultancy can replicate.
When Star World Holdings bids on a mineral block, its founder reads the geological data himself. That is an edge. And in mining, technical credibility at the leadership level is the difference between a credible exploration programme and an expensive mistake.

Antoninho’s vision for the Mining Division is to develop a standalone, professionally managed mineral exploration and extraction enterprise, one that will eventually have its own dedicated brand, website, investor materials, and operational infrastructure separate from the Star World Holdings main platform.
The long-term goal: to make Star World Holdings Mining Division one of the first credible, licensed, Timorese-led mining companies capable of partnering with international operators on an equal technical footing.
